Linux Mint adding launcher to Panel

Just go here and add a launcher – enjoy 🙂

  • /usr/share/cinnamon/applets/panel-launchers@cinnamon.org
  • run the file  /usr/share/cinnamon/applets/panel-launchers@cinnamon.org/cinnamon-add-panel-launcher.py
  • a nice GUI window should open up and allow you to add the launcher with the Name and Icon
  • if there is an error, check the permissions on the .py file

So where is the mysterious "cinnamon-add-panel-launcher.py" file to be found?

@Fred it should be located in the same folder : /usr/share/cinnamon/applets/panel-launchers@cinnamon.org/cinnamon-add-panel-launcher.py

Looks like it's gone in the newest version of Cinnamon... There are three files: applet.js metadata.json settings-schema.json

Thanks Naveen, worked like a charm. Why I can't just drag & drop a launcher from the desktop to the panel is just a mystery to me!

i wondered the same - mint is supposed to be more user friendly than any other distro - but you can only expect so much from linux - if its too easy, then its not linux :)
